The Measure

Congress designates a National Heritage Area that includes the Delta and Suisun Marsh by January 1, 2014.

Measure Details

The Sacramento San Joaquin Delta National Heritage Area (NHA) was created by Congress (PDF) in 2019, and the Delta Protection Commission was designated as the local coordinating entity. A final Delta NHA Management Plan was approved by the National Park Service in 2025.

DP R1. Designate the Delta as a National Heritage Area. The Delta Protection Commission should complete its application for designation of the Delta and Suisun Marsh as a National Heritage Area, and the federal government should complete the process in a timely manner.

Measure Details

Congress approved and the President signed into law the Senate Bill 47 (John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act) which established the Sacramento – San Joaquin Delta including Suisun Marsh as a National Heritage Area (NHA) on March 12, 2019. The Delta Protection Commission is the designated local coordinating entity and is leading local coordination, raising awareness, and preparing NHA management plan.
